It was dark and cold, her dress too short to really keep her warm. He arms were stiff and trapped above her head. She could not move. It had been hours, possibly even days. Time meant nothing to her. She was so alone.
She was numb.
The grating sound came as a shock. It had been so long since she had heard it, it was almost unrecognisable. Her heart soared when it sounded, waiting for the fourth turn, the fifth. At the sixth twist everything opened out, flooding her with light.
She rose to her feet, as graceful as ever and began her dance. Turning on the spot, arms elegantly moving to first position, into third and then back to fifth position.
The song ended and darkness fell back upon her as she was forced back to lie on her front, arms once again frozen above her head.
Her task was done.
Unable to move without the music that gave her life she simply lay and waited for it to play again.
