“It’s raining again.”
“It’s always raining in this place. I don’t know how everyone hasn’t killed themselves just to get away from it.”
The being in gold snickered a little, twirling a tuft of hair absent-mindedly in their fingers.
The silver-eyed one smiled and poured them both another glass from the bottle placed between them.
“It makes so much noise on the windows, I honestly don’t see how they cope. Whatever happened to peace and quiet?”
“Peace and quiet? You’ve been here too long, dearest.”
“Oh, you know what I mean. I just want it to be silent once in a while.”
“Silent as the grave?” Sharp, bright teeth glinted in the lamplight as Death Incarnate grinned at her own joke.
The golden creature laughed outright this time, a guttural shriek of disgusting pleasure at their companion’s wit.
“My darling, I do believe these humans have taught you to have a sense of humour.”
“Nonsense, I’ve always been funny.”
“Of course you have.”
The golden demon released the hair they had been playing with and it fell softly onto the gaunt face of the woman it belonged to. Lifeless eyes stared up as the blood they had taken was gulped down in huge swigs.
“It seems like this woman has finally gone off. The blood’s gone cold.”
“We’ll have to get some more once the rain stops.”
