Time keeping may have to be added to my resolutions this year.
The past is the colour blue. Dark and brooding, swallowing all light in its immeasurable shades of night.
The future is also blue. A lighter shade. The colour of the sky on a crisp winter’s morning. Pale and cold, pleasant but not necessarily welcoming.
The present has no colour at all.
The warmth and depth of the past calls comfortingly, waiting to embrace you in its familiar tendrils. It keeps you safe from the tingling clutches of the chilly future. It’s bright, blindingly unknowable. You know you’ll see your breath rise if you step outside.
The cool air is inviting, refreshing; a splash of brisk wind that will awaken the spirit of adventure.
Yet you’re unsure if you are ready to fill your lungs.
The colourless present sits blandly, awaiting your decision. Swirls of navy mingling with the edges. Wisps of sky-blue playfully poke their way in.
A glance back. A soothing, almost purple warmth makes your heart swell. Yet there’s a tug somewhere inside that has you turning your head. The icy blue of possibility beckons you with frosty fingers.
The first breath of new air is chilly, refreshing and frightening. Your head swirls a little, the dusty familiarity washing away.
You step out fully and let the light envelope you.
